The Storybook narrates the transformative journey of artists, curators, and communities involved in the “Magic Carpets” residencies from 2021 to 2024.

This collaborative book, conceived by a team of five visionary curators, captures the incredible work, projects, and ideas that define our platform, showcasing the diverse voices that shape our community.

This Storybook aims to reflect the innovative spirit of “Magic Carpets”, celebrating creativity, collaboration, and community within the art world. It serves as a comprehensive record of our collective achievements, illustrating the power of art to connect, transform, and inspire.

Key Features:

The link between “Magic Carpets” Platform and the Superorganism Event

This section explores the connection to the previous event “Magic Carpets Landed” and the Superorganism concept, including:

  • An introduction by Benedetta Carpi De Resmini who conceived the concept of the Platform, in which she creates the bridge between “Magic Carpets Landed” and the Superorganism event
  • An essay from Virginija Vitkienė, who have shaped the vision of Magic Carpets, in which she explained what the Platform and these years meant to her
  • Oliver Berg who creates a link between our Platform and the Autumn in Tartu
  • A conceptual text on the Superorganism event by group leaders of the exhibition, symposium and storybook: Brigita Bareikytė, Marija Kamber, Paola Farfaglio, and Ann Mirjam Vaikla
  • A text written by Agata Etmanowicz on how life stages influence engagement and advocates for increased accessibility and inclusive communication
  • An innovative dictionary compiling key terms and concepts from the project, providing unique insights into the language and ideas that have emerged throughout the “Magic Carpets” experience

Reflections on Art, Time and Space and the Magic Statistics:

This section features reflections from:

  • Neringa Kulik, Lewis Biggs, and Diane Dever, who served as mentors during the event, and wrote about the time, the art world and what it means to work in public spaces
  • A collage of thoughts from all the curators of the Platform, representing our individual and collective insights.
  • Contributions from symposium speakers
  • Significant data collected over the years, illustrating key metrics such as the number of artists sent on residencies and community involvement, offering a visual and statistical overview of the project’s broader impact.

Timeline of the Magic Carpets Projects

In the last part of this collective and interactive book we inserted a curated selection of photographs and curatorial texts which documents the various residencies, showcasing the artworks and the processes behind their realization. These visual narratives provide a tangible connection to the art created during the residencies, highlighting the creativity and dedication of the artists involved.

The Storybook is a profound and immersive reflection on the dynamic interplay of time, space, and creativity. Together, we have created a vibrant testament to the journeys we have undertaken, celebrating the creativity and collaboration that define Magic Carpets.
