Croatia

Karmen Krasić Kožul grew up on Hvar Island and completed her journalism studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Zagreb. She holds the European Diploma in Cultural Project Management, a certificate founded on the initiative of the Council of Europe, as well as a Transmedia Storyteller certificate from the Media Business School in Madrid. She is the director of Lab852, a company focused on cultural production, president of the Sustainable Island association, and curator of the Monade Gallery in Jelsa, Hvar. With ten years of experience in implementing EU projects, she has built an extensive network of international collaborators in the field of art and culture, including the Magic Carpets project, a platform that supports emerging artists in collaboration with local communities. She has designed, implemented, and facilitated numerous capacity-building programs for civil society organizations, cultural institutions, and local governments, placing art and culture at the heart of local development. Her practice focuses on connecting culture and nature and fostering innovation in inherited societal constructs. This vision led her, alongside her associates, to establish the Jelsa Art Biennial, a contemporary art festival on Hvar Island, which has since become an internationally recognized platform for the exploration, experimentation, and presentation of community and public art practices.
